On the 12th of January, Maysie had her 1st dance recital. My blog still for some reason won't let me upload any pictures which totally saddens me and I still have no idea how to upload our video's to the computer so you'll have to do without I guess, or just look at some of them off my facebook page.
:( I had my first experience dealing with all the stage makeup. For those of you who know me, I don't wear makeup very often or hardly any makeup if I do. Well she had to have full on stage makeup and her teachers sent out a list of everything she needed on. There was foundation, dark eye shadow (either grey, or dark brown), eye liner on the top and bottom (yeah, I have only worn this like 3 times in my life when some one else did my makeup for me), thick mascara, lip liner, lipstick (either hot pink or red) and blush. Yeah, we made a trip to the dollar store for this stuff which thankfully they had basically everything on the list although we compromised and used some weird eye shadow stuff for blush - hey it was pink, it worked! :) The eye liner got me. Seriously, no matter how hard you try, it just looks really funny on a 4 year old and it just looks wrong. But after 3 or 4 tries we got it to a somewhat passing level and said heck with it. Thankfully my sister Diana came over early and helped me since I really had no idea what I was doing. A huge thank you to her! :) Maysie looked adorable in her little pink outfit (probably the cutest costumes there) and rocked the stage when it was time for her class to go. They danced to the song "Walking On Sunshine" which of course makes you feel happy and want to dance anyways. She was a little nervous at first, which who wouldn't be when you have a full auditorium, and looked down for the first little bit, but by the end she found her groove. She really knew her routine. Graceful, probably not, but what do you really expect with a bunch of 3 and 4 year old's. :)
Camden was hilarious. At the beginning of every number, he would would look up and see if it was Maysie's class. When he realized it wasn't, he would get mad and refuse to watch the routine. Of course Maysie's routine was one of the very last ones. When it was her turn on stage, he was excited and cheered for her! I am so glad he wants to support his sister though. :)
Rob was in charge of the camcorder and well, lets just say, your probably glad you didn't have to watch it because if you get motion sickness easily... well you would be sick to your stomach. As her class was walking on the stage, he was recording some other kid the whole time and it wasn't until the dance started before he realized it was the wrong girl. :) Ha Ha. Seriously so funny. Then he had Camden on his lap and there were multiple times we were looking way above Maysie's head or just the feet and the corner of the stage. Yeah, I am glad that I ordered the professional copy that the studio was making. No really, Rob did an ok job, and I am glad he tries hard to preserve our families milestones even if we are not looking at the intended target. Ha Ha. I love that man.
We were lucky and had a lot of family come and support Maysie and it never ceases to amaze me how Rob's single brothers willing go to a dance recital and support their nieces. They rock! Rob's mom also went along with my sister. There are many other family members who I know would have loved to be there, but because of certain circumstances and the craptacular weather we experienced right then, they were unable to attend. I totally understand and I know it isn't always possible and I know they were thinking of us. I am grateful that we live close to some family who love and support our little family. We are so blessed.
When we got home, we gave Maysie some flowers and some M&M's which stood for Magnificent Maysie! Maysie is such a girl and loved her flowers mainly because of the colors: Pink, Purple, and Blue! She often goes to the kitchen table to smell them. I actually think that this was the 1st time she has ever gotten flowers before. But she did an outstanding job and she deserved something special to know how proud we are of her and her accomplishments.

Frankenstorm!
Like many of you here in the Salt Lake Valley, the storm that came blazing in last weekend was crazy. At our house we got over 2 feet of snow added to the 6 inches or so that we already had. Thursday night Rob and I had the opportunity to go to a movie premiere at the Gateway with some of his family and it seemed like it took for-ev-er to get there- almost an hour to go 10 miles or so. The movie was egh not a huge surprise because it isn't my type of movie but Rob thought it was ok, but our real surprise was when we got ready to leave their was a ton of fresh snow. We thought that it took a long time before but the way home took us even longer. When we pulled into our driveway the snow was already up to the bottom of our van like there was no tires attached to it. Needless to say, we were tired and didn't want to mess with it until the morning. We figured it wouldn't be a big deal because we could just get the 4 wheeler out. Big mistake. By the next morning we had 11" of snow. Not kidding ....
And it was still snowing. And snowing. And snowing. Our problem was that we forgot that Joe has the 4 wheeler at his house that happens to be the one with the plow on it from when he borrowed it to go on his elk hunt and it is now buried in his shed, in his back yard. Yeah, not cool. Luckily Rob was home to do most of the shoveling this time. I helped some, and the kids tried to help some too, but you know how kids are.... There was alot of snow angel making and king of the mountain, and even a few snow balls here and there.
Of course the weather was so bad that Davis County canceled school which is a huge deal because vary rarely does school get canceled in a city because of a storm. The neighbor kids loved the mini vacation and started building tunnels and igloo hideouts up and down our little street. :) It ended up snowing all day on Friday and most of the day Saturday and some still we saw some snowflakes on Sunday too. The plows evidently had a hard time keeping up with the storm since the main roads stink to drive on but the side roads they actually did a pretty good job. :) I'm thinking that there was alot of miscommunication about who plows what on the main roads since they are boarder roads with the neighboring cities because they are all snow packed and icy still... Since we live at the end of a culdasac, the plow tends to dump the snow from our street right in front of our house and our neighbors across the street. This storm must have been something because the brought the plow up and then brought a backhoe up too. The whole time I have lived here I don't think I have ever seen this done before. Anyways, somehow or mailbox fell victim to the backhoe. Still not quite sure how it happened. If it wasn't for the snow supporting it, it would be laying on the ground. Luckily they didn't hit our neighbors mailbox that is less than 2 feet from ours or the fire hydrant that is about 2 feet the other direction. That could have been disastrous. Personally, I am kinda glad because the mailman hit our mailbox a year or two ago and broke the supporting arm of the pole and Rob being the conservative guy he is attached metal plates to brace it into place. I have always thought that it looked a little tacky but it wasn't high on my priority list to buy a new pole. Now the city is buying us a new one and fixing it for us. Score! :)
Now that this storm has passed, the air became clear of the inversion for like 2 days and it is now all sorts of yuck again and the temperatures are freezing cold. I feel so bad for Rob who has to work in the middle of the night, outside half the time, in temperatures that are averaging below zero every day. We have been hermits inside our home because it is soo cold I haven't wanted to go outside unless I absolutely have to. Hopefully it warms up alittle bit and we can take the kids sledding like they have been begging us later this week. How is it when you are little you seem to never notice how cold it is or it doesn't really bother you as bad. All I can say is that my perception of these temperatures have definitely changed as I have gotten older that I like to be where it is nice and warm where there isn't much of this cold stuff for me.
Sorry there is no pictures folks. I have some taken but for some reason I can't get them to upload on here. Bummer! So just envision this: A tape measure measuring the snow - it read 11"; a picture of Maysie pretty much buried in the snow trying to make a snow angel; a picture of Camden on top of our snow pile at the side of our driveway that we made while shoveling the snow; a picture of Rob trying to clear the driveway with snow; and a deformed mailbox. See we don't need pictures do we. :)

All Tucked In
Last night I went to check on Maysie before I went to bed, this is what I found...
When I tucked her in bed about 2 hours earlier, she had one stuffed animal to serve as her faithful companion, but she got out of bed about 30 minutes later saying she wanted to switch her animal, which isn't too out of the ordinary since she hates bed time and tries too stall as long as possible. I am guessing that she had a hard time choosing a different one because when I had to remove all the toys I counted 13 dolls/ stuffed animals so I could move her over so she wouldn't fall off her bed sometime during the night. It's a wonder that there was room for her on the bed too. As you can tell by the pictures, she is just barely on the bed. Ha Ha. That silly girl. It was so funny and unexpected, that I had to get a picture before I could move her so I could show Rob how crazy our daughter can be sometimes. Boy how I just love this kid!
